Welcome back
It’s nice to see you again. Is there something you’re unsure of? Want to ask us a question?
Known as 'chicken of the woods' (Laetiporus) because of it's chickeny taste when eaten, this common fungus can be identified by its orange or yellow colouring. It forms in fan shapes on tree trunks during late summer through to October. It grows most commonly on the wounds of trees and will produce brown rot in it's host.
Honey fungus
Honey Fungus (Armillaria) appears as groups of honey coloured toadstools at the bottom of infected trees and plants in the autumn. When the toadstools are not present, you'll notice symptoms including a failure to flower, early autumnal colour and cracking and bleeding of the bark.
Shaggy bracket
Shaggy bracket (Basidiomycotina) presents as a rounded bracket shape fungus on the trunk or main branches of trees during the autumn. The fungus causes rot inside the tree and can eventually cause the tree to be unstable.
Meripulus Giganteus
Meripulus Giganteus, also known as Giant Polypore, infects trees through wounds or damaged section of trees. It will then grow inside the tree causing rot and decay. It presents as symptoms like dieback or loss of leaves as well as, but not always, a furled fruiting fungus.
Ganoderma (Lingzhi Mushroom)
Ganoderma, also known as Lingzhi Mushroom is another form of bracket fungus. These types of fungus attack trees internally as well as presenting on the exterior. It's important to get this treated as soon as you notice it as it can lead to a tree coming down in high winds through being weakened by internal rot.
